The Vice President of the National Olympic Committee of Tajikistan, Rahmonzoda Abdullah, has lauded the accomplishments of the country’s athletes in 2022, noting that new landmarks have been established.

“In the past year, the country’s sports sector has achieved results that are unique and for the first time in the history of the country’s independence. Along with these proud achievements, the country has also increased its sporting infrastructure in 2022,” noted Rahmonzoda Abdullah at a press conference last Friday, February 10.

In 2022, 650 national athletes participated in 64 international competitions and brought home 548 medals comprised of 150 gold, 162 silver and 236 bronze medals. This was 150 more medals than won in 2021.

Among the most notable achievements was the accomplishment of Temur Rakhimov, who won the first gold medal in the history of Tajik judo at the Baku Grand Slam 2022 in Azerbaijan. He went on to become the world No. 1 ranked judoka in the +100kg category and maintained this position at the end of year.

Last year, 112 sports facilities were built in cities and districts across Tajikistan - 75 playgrounds, 25 sports halls, three swimming pools and nine sports complexes.
